HELENE ROTHER

Automotive Designer - GM

Rother was the first woman to be a designer in the American car industry.
She was born in Leipzig Germany, and studied at Bauhaus design and later moved to Paris, where she and had a design studio creating jewellery. She left for New York during the Second World War.
While in New York she became an illustrator for Marvel Comics then joined General Motors on interior styling. Rother designed upholstery, lighting, door and seat construction on the Nash brand of cars.
